Why do sunburns hurt while wearing a shirt in the sun?

Even if you’re wearing a shirt, some UV rays can still penetrate through the fabric and reach your skin. While clothing can provide some protection against sunburn, it’s not always enough to prevent all UV radiation from reaching the skin, especially if the fabric is thin or light-colored.
