Why do the instructions for some pills say to hold them under your tongue for 30 seconds before swallowing?

This isn’t common, but I’ve had providers tell me it’s so the drug can start absorbing by the buccal (oral mucosa/tissue) route while the rest of the drug is absorbed in the intestines.
