Why do the movement in many Source engine FPS Games feel the same?

Like Counter strike, Team fortress 2. Portal. Left for dead. Why do the movement in these 4 different games feel the same?

You said so yourself in the question: They have the same engine.

They have different assets and plot and overall gameplay but it all comes from the same building blocks

It’s because they are pretty much the same, those games just use the default code for movement provided by source engine, so naturally things will feel the same.
