Advertising airtime is bought by the minute and priced in accordance to how many people are likely to see a given ad. Prime time advertising is the most expensive, but it has the most eyeballs watching. Which makes it more appealing for national brands to shill their products. During the daytime and late at night, there typically aren’t too many people watching TV, so airtime can be bought at a discount. That’s when you’ll see the shady lawyers and as-seen-on-TV products being pushed, as they can afford to advertise during those time slots. Plus those sort of products appeal to people who do happen to be watching TV at that time.
