Why do we blink adequately looking at a book or paper but not nearly enough while looking at a screen

I think its a combination of things, with a book, unlike a screen where you’re watching a movie or some youtube video, you know that whatever is on the page will still be there but with a movie you might miss something and then have to rewind it which nobody likes because it messes up the flow.

Secondly, I think that generally speaking, anything that has a screen is just more engaging than a book and makes us hyperfocus.

Thirdly, you don’t actually need to do anything to “control” a book aside from flipping a page once in a while, unlike with a computer where you’re constantly going from one task to another which requires more motor skills more often.
