Why do we enjoy having blankets on us/need them to sleep?

Because we used to be prey so feeling like we are hidden and protected while we sleep makes us feel good.

Using a blanket helps us to deal with our lower nightly core body temperatures. It also increases the serotonin and melatonin levels in our brain which helps relax us and fall asleep. Our circadian rhythm – that’s our natural sleep rhythm – is a huge driver for our sleep

It’s a conditioned response. Right from birth, when you sleep, someone puts a blanket over you, So you always associate being under covers with sleep. Just as those used to some noise find silence uncomfortable and vice versa. Those who sleep with some light find it uncomfortable to sleep in total darkness and vice versa.
