Why do we get “knocked out” from a punch or a strike from a hard object?

So its mainly cause of the shock/impact than the hardness or shape of the object, boxing gloves arent that hard but people still det knocked out from them. How it works is that your brain floats in your head in some liquid and when your head gets a sudden impact from one side the freely floating brain hits the wall of your head and it shuts off to protect itself. Thats what i know correct me if im wrong.
