Why do we get sick of eating certain foods?

I just had a grilled cheese sandwich, and now, I really don’t want another grilled cheese sandwich. On the other hand, I could eat several trays of sushi and still want more.

Food desires rely on many factors, one of them being the release of dopamine when you finally eat what you’re craving. Maybe you have stronger cravings for sushi than grilled cheese. Another factor is the complex flavors. Sushi is made up of many components and is usually eaten with soy sauce and seaweed which has tons of MSG that’s responsible for the umami flavor. Umami can be very addictive at times. It also has protein (fish), starches (rice), and other stuff that your body craves. Grill cheese is just carbs, dairy, and possibly some oil. Novelty is another factor. Grill cheese is easy to make, cheap, and readily available. Good sushi takes training to make, requires expensive ingredients, and is harder to find (at least in the Western world). Presentation plays a role too. Well made sushi can be presented in many different ways. If it’s made well, it can be very appealing which makes it more appetizing. A grill cheese is just toasted bread and melted cheese, not many ways to make it look more appealing.
