Metabolism is slowing down, so food has more time to ferment, producing more gasses. Also, your diet may change, and many older people also start to cope with age-related illnesses, some have medications. All that said, it’s not field which has received rigorous study, as few people have perished directly as a result of barking spiders.

It happens mostly with westernized diets which encourage poor gut biomes. High carbs and sugar, few fibers and foods that promote good bacteria, lots of yeast from breads and beer and sugar. My gas ended when I switched to a anti candida diet and unless I have xylitol I have no gas. My American grandparents always farted. Not so much in other countries I’ve lived in.

Gut motility slows as you age, lots of elderly need daily laxatives to stimulate bowel and stop constipation which makes them gassy.
Also the very young eat alot of wotsits and pasta (evidence=my toddler)

I don’t know for sure but my guess would he as we age our digestive system become less efficient, like most of our organs and body do… But that is just a guess lol honestly don’t know.

Yeah…not sure that’s a fact. If anything older people may lose muscle tonus in the sphincter and be less able to control when they let one out. Plus, as others have said, they just don’t care. So they may release more often, but in still approximately the same volume.

If you eat fiber, you’ll fart, period. If you suddenly eat a lot more fiber than usual, you’ll fart more than usual, then go back to average. Pregnancy can put pressure on the lower intestinal tract, and cause them to slip out more often, but the volume of gas is roughly the same even then.

Fart.

Do we? I have some friends with a 1 year old that kid farts all the time and loudly. I think as we get older we learn to control that and then by much older start to loose that ability again. Just if I had to guess.
