Why do we puke or throw up when we over exert ourselves physically?
It seemed like a daily occurrence during football practices in HS and glorified by trainers who work their clients to the point of puking…

Any trainers who work their clients to the point of puking arent good trainers (at least if they do it regularly, it happening one time because “man that was a really hard work out” is alright, but happening every day isn’t great).

But to answer the question, it’s because your body is doing one or two things:

Saying “oh shit, are we like running away from a predator or fighting for our lives? We need to dump this extra weight, food in our stomach isn’t worth anything if we’re dead”

Or saying “oh jeez why doesn’t my body feel good? Was it something we ate? Is it something that was poisoness? We should get that out of our stomach”

Because at some point in the past, one of our ancestors had a brother who carried the gene for ralphing when they ran and his kids made it to adult hood more frequently. Over and over again.

Digestion actually takes a good deal of energy to do. Net positive of course otherwise eating wouldn’t work at all.

When you exert yourself a lot the energy needed for digestion (basically blood flow and water) get diverted to muscles and sweat and such. The stomach basically then goes, welp. Can’t do anything with all this muck, out it goes.
