: Why do we struggle speaking/screaming when afraid and scared?

Title explains it all i guess.

I have experienced it personally and there are multiple such moments in movies and TV shows. It just feels like no matter how hard I try nothing comes out.

This happens to people? I had no idea.

Whenever I’m scared what I do depends on the level and duration of the fear, the more scared I am the louder I will be and the longer the fear the more talkative I will be. So in example if a cat jumps on me I might yell ‘BAH’ in a semi-funny way, if I was trapped in a room full of spiders I’d start talking/making weird noises frequently, and if I tripped then I would make a short, loud high pitched scream that everyone in the neighbourhood would hear.
