It depends on the drug. For caffeine, it works by clogging up adenosine receptors in your brain. Adenosine is a chemical that makes you feel tired but caffeine cock blocks the adenosine so you don’t feel tired. After regularly drinking caffeine, your brain grows more adenosine receptors, so to feel normal, you need caffeine, and you need even more caffeine to feel energetic.
