Why do you sometimes taste metal after getting hit in the head?

It’s caused by damage to the olfactory nerves due to a concussion or worse brain injury. Basically the nose starts smelling the iron in the blood. The level of damage can be brief, temporary, or even permanent based on the extent of the injury.

Edit: I concur, if the sensation of tasting or smelling metal lasts more than just a few moments, seek medical attention immediately! Even if the sensation passes quickly, it’s still a good idea to see a doctor soon.
