why do young children have faster heart rates than older children or adults?

It seems like their heart rate should be slower since blood doesnt have to flow as far, and adults should be faster.

Their hearts are smaller and need to pump faster to deliver blood everywhere. Think of it like a weed eater vs a car engine. Your weed wacker might have an rpm of 7k-10k where your car runs around 1.5- 3K.

Also athletes have even a slower heart rate because the heart is stronger it’s able to pump more blood in each pulse.
