why do young children have faster heart rates than older children or adults?

It seems like their heart rate should be slower since blood doesnt have to flow as far, and adults should be faster.

The heart rate is based on how much metabolic activity you have. A baby/toddler has a much more active metabolism than an adult, wich means they need more nutrients/oxygen, wich is reflected on a faster heart rate. As you grow up and metabolism gets slower, so does your heartbeat. This is also why it’s more difficult for children to put on weight and why they usually seem like they have endless energy, they have a much faster metabolism than an adult.
