Anxiety is a highly “wakeful” mental activity, you’re up, alert and looking around, but too much. So alcohol starts putting parts of your brain to sleep, but not in any normal order, so you’re still up and walking and talking mostly but you’re also pretty unable to put together the normal thought patterns of your anxiety to properly perceive it.
That doesn’t mean those worries or anxieties go away of course, people who are drunk may do the first step of worrying about something over and over, but never actually get any further, or really notice what they’re doing.
