Glass and aluminium are less likely to react with the beer, which could produce some off-flavors. They are also generally better at keeping stuff like oxygen out, even when not highly pressurized.

1. It looks better and more fitting in a can or a glass bottle.
2. There are a lot of ultra cheap shitty beers that actually come in plastic bottles.

light can cause some beers to go bad..why they originally came in brown or green bottles… clear glass beers are not “alive”

Maybe this doesn’t happen around the globe, but where I live beer is also available in brown, thin plastic bottles. Usually very cheap beer from a discounter grocery store.

glass and aluminum are mostly inert so they wont react with the beer and they are both better at handling high pressure

The baseball stadium near where I live sells beer in 16 oz. plastic bottles. Or at least used to (haven’t been to a game in 3 or 4 years).
