Why does frozen vodka taste much smoother than bottles chilled or room temperature?

The taste buds on your tongue respond to different kinds of flavour.
When something is really cold, you are numbing most of these receptors to the point that the taste is “smooth” while really they’re just not responding.
If a drink says it’s better ice cold* it means it’s rather low quality. (Beer commercials for example)
