When you yawn it increases the air pressure in the Eustachian tube and that then bends the ear drums which in turn impairs hearing. I dont know if there is any way to simplify this further

When you hear, your brain is interpreting vibrations on the ear drum. When you yawn, the ear drum is held more stable than normal and can’t vibrate easily.
