Why does our stomach start hurting when we think we have food poisoning? Even though most of the time nothing is wrong at all?

Like the placebo effect there is something called the “[nocebo effect](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nocebo)”.

In the same way that you can physically feel better when given a placebo, even if you know it is a placebo, you can also make yourself feel sick when nothing is wrong.
