why does phlegm go to your lungs and not your stomach?

Because it’s produced by mucus membranes that go from your nose to your lungs. When you cough it up and swallow it it goes to your stomach but then more is made in your respiratory tract I think.

Phlem goes to your stomach as well. Fun fact: the reason our own stomach acid doesn’t digest the stomach itself is because there are mucus glands which line our stomach with mucus as a sacrificial layer between stomach walls and the acid pool
