why does residual heat come off of sunburns?

Got lit up by our glorious gas giant recently and once again noticed the skin was warm and even hot in some worse areas. A phenomenon ive noticed many times and ive never seeked an explanation.

Sunburns are warm for the same reason they’re red—blood vessels in the affected skin become dilated. This delivers extra resources to aid in healing, and delivers extra body heat as a side effect.
