It helps lower inflammation and “dry out” the gums. Basically after oral surgery you need the hymns to seal back up where they can, and for any left over dangly bits to fall off. Rinsing your mouth with salt water helps speed up that process

Salt is a good way to control the bacteria in your mouth, making your mouth less inclined to have microorganism dwelling on your wounds speeds up the healing process. Also salt is an astringent, it makes your mouth tissue to contract, but also increases the blood flow both things reduce the inflammatory response and also help in the healing process. More blood flow means more nutrient to the cells that will divide themselves into more cells to close down the wound, less inflammation mean less discomfort for you, but also means less white blood cells that can disturb the healing process by getting in the way.
