Male ejaculate is made up of two different things. Seminal fluid, which is made in the prostate, and sperm cells that come from the testicles. When you ejaculate, your prostate pushes the fluid out, which picks up the sperm on the way out.

It is the actual sperm cells that make ejaculate thick, and you only ejaculate so many sperm at a time. Once all the sperm are ejaculated, the remaining seminal fluid from the prostate will be thinner and more runny.
