why does shaking or moving something make it hurt less (ie cutting your finger and then shaking it)?

Your sensation from your nerves travels up to your brain (where whichever sensation is interpreted) at different speeds depending on what the sensation is. Vibration /light touch travels faster to your brain than thn pain / temperature. Your body can feel both at the same time, but vibration / light touch gets their first. So it overrides the pain feeling. That’s why not only does shaking feel better (vibration) but also rubbing something after you injure it (rubbing your knee you just hit against the table).
