Why does skeumorphic icons look so ugly and outdated now? Wasn’t it revolutionary just 5 years ago?

Everything new is now old. We crave newness and originality (as long as it’s not too different) so in this case familiarity has bred contempt. Until skeuomorphism gets into the nostalgia stage
They look ugly and outdated, to whom? I’m looking at my reddit window right now and I see a few of them, they look very normal to me. There’s even more on my desktop, still normal. False premise?
