Why does skeumorphic icons look so ugly and outdated now? Wasn’t it revolutionary just 5 years ago?

They look ugly and outdated, to whom? I’m looking at my reddit window right now and I see a few of them, they look very normal to me. There’s even more on my desktop, still normal. False premise?
