Why does slouching in a chair feel more comfortable despite being worse for your back?

Partly related to habit and comfort. If you are used to slouching and not engaging the muscles in your back, eventually that is going to be ‘comfortable’. Attempting to change your posture will seem like too much effort to maintain.

In the slouched position you also don’t activate most of your core muscles and rely on the inert structures (that cannot be activated or controlled by you) like the joints and ligaments in your hips and spinal column to prevent you from completely falling over.

It’s like using the least energy to maintain the position. So you are more likely to slouch.
