Why does someone else’s dump stink, but not your own?

Perception is a relative thing – think about all of the foods that you think taste good but others don’t and vice versa. At its core, the difference between something that you perceive as “good” and something that you perceive as “bad” comes down to your own personal belief about whether its dangerous or not. Regardless of what something smells like, if you personally believe that thing to be dangerous it will smell bad. Conversely, if you personally believe that thing to pose no danger then it will smell good.

When you’re smelling someone else’s poop there are a lot of unknowns to you, for example:

Is the other person sick?

Did the other person eat something gross?

How long ago did the other person take that shit?

Chances are you don’t know any of that, so the other person’s poop presents a danger to you.

Even if you do know all of that, you’ve been socially conditioned to believe that other people’s poop is dangerous regardless of the cleanliness of the person it came from. Again, this means that even the best poop from someone else poses some degree of danger to you. Because you personally believe that other people’s poop poses a danger to you, it smells bad.

But your own poop obviously smells good *despite smelling the exact same as everyone else’s bad smelling poop*.

The reason for this is because you know where the poop came from. You know that you’re not going to catch a communicable disease that you don’t already have from yourself. You know what you ate and you know whats coming out of you. You also know exactly when you took the shit, so you know whether its fresh or whether its had time to become dangerous to you.

On top of all of that, the social conditioning to see all poop as bad generally doesn’t take hold for your own poop because you’ve spent your entire life touching it on a regular basis without any harm. And yes, you’ve been touching it your entire life and you know it – even if you don’t want to admit it.

Even if you’re the best ass wiper on the entire planet you will still occasionally get some on your hands – and you can’t help but to avoid it getting on your butthole. The fact that you’re constantly touching your poop without suffering any ill effects helps to create a general understanding that your personal poop doesn’t pose a danger to you.

You can extend this to farts, piss, boogers, spit or any of the other bodily substances that make you want to vomit when they’re someone else’s, but which smell/taste good when they’re your own.
