Why does speed of weight loss determine if someone will have loose skin?

Llike how does that work? Why does speed of weight loss effect loose skin?

I’m just confused how the speed In which you lose weight effects skin elasticity.

Why is it that if you “lose weight too fast” you’ll have loose skin but that the skin is magically tighter if you lose it slower?

Is this true or is it a myth? And if it is true whats the reason for this?

Like hypothetically if i lost 50 in 4 months, vs 50lbs in a year how does that effect my skin?

50 lbs in 4 months is generally considered very unhealthy. I think what you’re referring to is the loose skin after a liposuction which is usually hidden with a tummy tuck.

Even if you were to manage 5lbs per month through diet and exercise there shouldn’t be an elasticity problem because it’s still “slow” enough you’re body adjusts.

I think it’s mostly myth. People that lose weight quickly also probably gained weight quickly, and stretch marks don’t naturally go away. I lost 80 lbs in 8 months a couple years ago and the only places I had loose skin were areas I had pre-existing stretch marks. Even there, it wasn’t really noticeable except to me.

Age and sex will also have a major effect on skin elasticity.

i have no medical knowledge but just from common sense and 9th grade bio deductions i would assume since skin is constantly regenerating (as old cells die and such) it can adjust thus a slower weight loss would give the skin more time to adjust and thus be more normal.

its like if you told a dude to build a fence in a year vs in a month. hes probably going to make a much worse fence in that time
