Due to tolerance of many things decreasing. Your alcohol tolerance also decreases.

You may find that your general diet has changed significantly with not eating as spicy food so often for example. Or what you do eat not being as spicy as it once was so when you encounter a “normal” level of spiciness it has the deleterious effect – appetite decreases with age so maybe you’re not eating as much spice absorbing food with a spicy dish as you once used to E.g. not as much rice/bread/starchy veg

This article outlines some common reasons, but a decrease in saliva and a change in the biodome and stomach acid seem like possible explanations.

I never thought to ask *why* I can’t eat certain things now that I’m older, so this was interesting. As some people suggested, you might want to discuss this with your doctor, but the article gives you a few things to think about before you do. Then the conversation can be explicit to *your* needs.

I do miss spicy Thai food, but I still enjoy not so spicy dishes from the menu.

As people age, the digestive system may become more sensitive, and factors like decreased stomach acid and changes in gut motility can contribute to increased discomfort with spicy foods.
