Why does spicy food start wreaking havoc on the digestive track when you’re older?

Due to tolerance of many things decreasing. Your alcohol tolerance also decreases.

You may find that your general diet has changed significantly with not eating as spicy food so often for example. Or what you do eat not being as spicy as it once was so when you encounter a “normal” level of spiciness it has the deleterious effect – appetite decreases with age so maybe you’re not eating as much spice absorbing food with a spicy dish as you once used to E.g. not as much rice/bread/starchy veg
