Why does tap water taste so different if I leave it in a cup for a few days?

Water comes out of your tap chlorinated. Chlorine kills bacteria and parasites. When you leave glass of tap water for a while you will see little bubbles on the inside of the glass that’s chlorine takes couple of days for chlorine to evaporate and that changes the taste also water from the tap is usually colder then your 2 day old room temperature glass of water. Temperature of water can trick our brains to think taste is different too.
Water gradually takes on carbon dioxide from the air. In solution, carbon dioxide tastes bitter and stale.
