Why does the battery on the original Nintendo DS never die?

I just tried booting up my 3ds for the first time in 2 years and the battery was dead. I then booted up my original DS which I haven’t turned on in like 10 years and longer than that since it was last charged. It turned on with a green light still! Why does the battery hold its charge when just about all other electronics with built in batteries die without over long periods of time?

I’ve wondered this same thing. My DS never loses its charge when just sitting unused but every other electronic device I own does.
