Why does the sun burn more in some climates versus others? I live in CA and recently visited Florida and the sun will burn you so much quicker in CA. Why?

The angle of sunlight has a big effect, so when the sun is directly overhead, you get more of its power. So closer to the equator, you get more of those direct rays. Also the atmospheric properties are different in different areas. Places with fewer clouds will deliver more sunlight, and areas with lower amounts of ozone will get a lot more UV light. And the Earth’s distance from the sun varies slightly throughout the year. The Earth is actually closest to the sun during winter in the Northern Hemisphere but during summer in the Southern Hemisphere.

Australia, for example, is well known for basically being a perfect storm of all these conditions.
