Also, heat maxes clothing fibers expand so the dye can saturate them better. Cold makes the fibers seize up. It’s why older model washers and detergents tell you to wash on hot water to get things really clean.

Because you want the water to hold the maximum amount of dye to make the deepest saturated colors. Just like dissolving sugar in water, hot water can hold more dye, and you can’t get hotter than boiling water at 212.
