Why hasn’t genetic modification been used to minimise the size of the seed of avocado?

Just had an avocado, it was lovely but the seed was an absolute giant entity and it felt like overall the fruit was more seed than flesh. Why hasn’t genetic modification or selective breeding been used to minimise the size of the seed and maximise the flesh? I believe seedless grapes have been around for many years so why is avocado so problematic from a seed perspective?

It, um… Actually has. Believe it or not, the seed used to take up even more space in the avocado.

The thing with selective breeding and genetic modification is that these things take quite a lot of time and, for the most part, is pretty random. There’s a good chance that the genetic code for smaller seeds has simply never appeared for us to be able to breed it with any reliability.
