Why/How does a new car have that fresh/new car scent during the first few uses? Why cant any form of cleaning/detailing (whether from the best car wash/detailer there is or the in-house wash/detailing of the manufacturer/dealer) replicate or restore it?

First and foremost, although we all find the aroma to be a pleasant one, it’s actually quite unhealthy and is the result of off-gassing plastics, leathers, and other materials; no one wants to bottle potential cancer.

As the other comment says. It’s fumes from the glues, resins, coatings and plastics. It’s a heady sensuous mix!

Most of it is off gassing plastics, glues etc.

Another overlooked part is that it has no filth in it.

No dirt, no dust, no fries, nothing. The complete and total absence of smell due to cleanliness, and a special blend of production vapors.

Even if you could emulate the new car smell, its not gonna be the same in a car that isn’t also showroom clean
