Why is cardio exercise recommended if the heart is a muscle and can become “too big” or “too strong”?

Cardio exercises are great for you, but I’m confused. Since the heart is a muscle, does exercising it make it grow bigger, which could lead to heart disease?

My father has a enlarged heart and this question crossed my mind.

Have you ever seen a muscle bound runner? They are all pretty small because their body metabolizes muscle due to intense cardio. but their slow twitch fibers allow them to run forever. So I doubt running would make your heart grow.

Steroids do though.

It can become too big but this comes with great effort but if doing just a decent amount would get you to a balance with a “fit” heart. It would be the same as asking: why is eating recommended/mandatory if you can become “too fat”?

The only times I’ve heard of enlarged hearts are from dudes roided to the gills not just super fit normies… is your dad on the secret sauce?

There are all of kinds of health issues related to being extremely fit/strong.

99% of people are better off not thinking about it; getting more fit is usually a net positive. The exceptions are often a sudden change or the most elite levels of competition.
