Why is cold water or ice water more refreshing than lukewarm water or hot water? Why do humans prefer cold water to hot water even though hot water still hydrates us?

One of the reasons is the taste. Water tastes different based on its temperature. Hot water is the least enjoyable wheras cold water for most, tastes the best. Though some prefer room temperature.
But typically when you are thirsty, your body is dehydrated. This can increase your body temperature.
Cold water helps cool your body temperature, hydrates you and as mentioned, often has the best flavor of the three.
Just like a cold soda has a much better taste than a can sitting in the sun or at room temperature.
