Why is cold water or ice water more refreshing than lukewarm water or hot water? Why do humans prefer cold water to hot water even though hot water still hydrates us?

I think we prefer to drink fresh water. Water that sits in the sun is hot and stagnant. (Danger! Germs!) We’ve learned that’s not good.
Drinking water is a good way to cool down. I think that can as to a refreshing sensation when you are overheated.
When it comes to beverages – not just water – temperature affects texture and taste. Coca cola fresh out of the fridge has a unique texture, very smooth.
