why is diabetes incurable and long term why isnt a healthy diet enough

I was a 400 lb. type 2 diabetic and ate a lot of metformin and glipizide.
Went on a diet, lost 200 lbs, and was declared diabetes free by the Dr.
That was 15 years ago… am still diabetus free. Maybe it’s not incurable, but in my case, I feel like I have been cured.
