Diabetes is caused either by a lack of insulin or a resistance of the body to insulin. Either way insulin isn’t able to do what it needs to do in your body, which is a signal to allow the cells in your body to metabolize sugars, fats, and proteins.

Diabetes is incurable because we don’t have any way to make your body produce insulin properly when it doesn’t, or to remove an acquired resistance to insulin. Instead it can be treated by the injection of insulin as needed to regulate blood sugar levels. Too low blood sugar and your body essentially shuts down from lack of energy, and too high levels result in other problems like damage to nerves which can ultimately lead to the loss of extremities like fingers and toes.

A healthy diet isn’t enough because the issue is metabolizing of sugars, not how much you eat. It doesn’t matter how well tuned your diet is to your energy needs if your cells just cannot bring sugars into them because there isn’t enough insulin. An analogy would be like a faulty fuel pump in a car; it doesn’t matter how much fuel is in the tank if the pump isn’t pulling it into the engine for use.
