why is diabetes incurable and long term why isnt a healthy diet enough

Imagine you’ve got a nuclear reactor on a somewhat isolated island that doesn’t have lots of resources and the reactor is the only power suply they have.
If you don’t try to put a ton of uranium and follow the protocol nothing bad should happen.
But, if the reactor explodes, that’s it.
The island needs external sources of energy.
Not really a 1:1 analogy but I think it’s understandable.
