Exercise is healthy because it keeps the body “ready”.

If you don’t exercise, your body gets lazy. Your heart decides it doesn’t need to pump as much because you never use it much and pumping extra is just wasted energy

This means that when you do need yo run or such, your body has to work much harder to do the same work it’d do if it were in shape.

It goes hand in hand with eating well. If you eat poorly, your heart still has to work harder because extra salt and cholesterol cause your blood vessels to become less stretchy or form plaques that make them more narrow. This means your heart has to work harder to do the same work as if these things did not happen.

So if you eat well and exercise, your body doesn’t have to work as hard at rest as someone who eats poorly and your body can more easily adjust to extra strain like running when you need to.

If you eat poorly but exercise, your body works harder at rest and while it has a stronger “engine” to get going, it has to work even harder when it is.

And if you eat poorly and don’t exercise, your body has to work extra hard just to sit there, and much much harder to do any actual work.

All that extra work wears out the parts. Pumping extraa when you’re unhealthy means your heart is under a lot of strain and the muscle fibers wear out and become damaged over time, like a car you don’t take good care of.

If you take care of yourself better, those parts last much longer.
