Why is ice not as common in Germany as it is in the US?

I am currently visiting some family in Munich Germany and it seems like ice just is not as popular. Is this a cultural thing? Is it throughout most of Europe?

The US is the only country where they fill the glass with ice, to the top, and then pour the drink into the small space that remains. In Europe, you might get 2 or 3 cubes. Or none. Although European branches of US-based chains, such as McDonalds, do it the US way because ice is cheaper than drink.

If I’m not mistaken, most drinks are consumed room temp over there, making ice a low demand item.

Its actually very common to have ice in Europe.

Its just that when the waiters/waitresses see a wanker they don’t like, they serve them without it.
