If your hands are dry, it won’t stick.

If your hands are damp, the water on your hands starts to freeze when it comes in contact with the ice.

Edit: Easy experiment: try touching a dry (fresh from freezer) ice cube with A. Dry finger, B. Damp finger, C. Very wet finger.

What happens?

Your finger will also stick when it’s dry.. just needs some time..

The heat of your finger melts the first layer of ice.. but the ice is cold enough to freeze that layer again, so your finger starts sticking.. same with the tongue.. and you got to remember, that the metal pole will get way cooler than 0 degrees Celsius.. so it is a lot faster..
