One thing not mentioned by others is the placement of the thermostat. The AC is controlled by the temperature at the thermostat. The temperature in different rooms may differ colder or hotter depending on air circulation, but theAC switches off/on based on the temperature only at the thermostat.
For example, our thermostat is on the main floor of the house, we have a specific room that is always a couple degrees colder if the AC is on and a couple degrees hotter if the furnace is on.
