Why is it impossible to “exert ourselves or exert energy to push” while breathing? Why do we hold our breath and then push?

Its always so hard to do it while breathing. Everyone always says to breathe when you exercise but whenever you exert yourself you hold your breath, push and then breathe.

Why can’t we do this all simultaneously, its like we hold our breath to build up energy.

It certainly isn’t impossible, it just isn’t easy. In fact, most of not all martial arts put a huge emphasis on breathing properly for this very reason. But the poster above me is completely correct; without practice and muscle control, it’s pretty much muscularly counterintuitive.

If you are pushing, pulling or doing other movements that require great force, you often involve the muscles around your upper body – a good portion of your strength cones from there. This means that most of those muscles will contract

Breathing in is kind of the opposite – it expands your chest, which requires the muscles around it to relax (and not contract).
