I play guitar, and I’m left-handed. I’ve recently started learning finger style which really involves the right hand. It’s taken me a bit, but my right hand thumb, index and middle have come along nicely. The ring not so much. That’s because most of us use at least the thumb and index on our non-dominant hand quite a bit, but my ring finger tends to not do much. From a dexterity standpoint my right ring has basically been along for the ride my whole life. I’ve been trying to focus on getting it involved in day to day activity, not just when I’m playing. Things like picking up objects using the thumb and ring finger instead of the index, and it’s wild how incredibly awkward and clumsy it feels. Also the musculature isn’t developed, so the muscles get fatigued and sore quickly. That said, it feels like this technique works, but there’s a decades long deficit, so I don’t think I’ll be painting landscapes with my right ring any time soon.
